“There are few things that are more worthwhile
than getting books into the hands of children”

Marie Ricketts, VTDigger member

Dear Reader,

We don’t know much yet about the effects Covid-19 will have on our education system and young people. We do know that the pandemic has widened inequality in many cases and has hit hardest for families with the fewest resources.

There are just three days left in our spring drive to support trusted news and low-income children facing even greater risk of growing up with low literacy skills due to Covid-19 disruptions.

VTDigger and the Children’s Literacy Foundation need your support to send books to 3,000 children by the end of the week and finish the drive. We only have 150 member donations left to go. Will you join us and members like Marie?

VTDigger’s reporters have been tirelessly following the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. We were the first news organization in Vermont to publish daily data on cases, hospitalizations and deaths. We’ve broken dozens of stories and investigations about the state’s response and how Vermonters are being affected.

Now, as Vermont races to vaccinate residents against the emergence of new Covid-19 variants, we need your help. Our annual spring drive is one of two major member drives that we hold each year and provides crucial funding for our reporting.

Our news is free for all to consume, but it is not free to produce. Our spring drive partnership with the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) means that you can support local news and local kids at the same time.

Make a one-time or monthly donation for as little at $5/month today and your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by generous friends of VTDigger. We will thank you by sending a brand-new book to a Vermont child. Will you join us?

With gratitude,

Libby Johnson
