A security camera image shows the suspect in a robbery Tuesday of the North Country Federal Credit Union branch in Orleans.

Police are looking for a man who robbed a Barton bank at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

The man — dressed in dark clothes, masked, wearing gloves and a hood — entered North Country Federal Credit Union on Main Street in Orleans, a village in Barton, at about 3 p.m. according to the Vermont State Police.

The robber flashed a handgun and demanded cash from the tellers. Troopers didn’t specify the amount of cash stolen.

After the robbery, the man left the building on foot and headed down Maple Street, where he stole a bicycle, state police said. A vehicle picked him up on River Toad, then continued north, investigators said.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.

State police described the man as slender and white, about 5 feet, 5 inches or 5 feet, 6 inches in height.

The armed bank robbery is the second in Barton this year.

In early February, a man entered the TD Bank office on Main Street and threatened to use a weapon if tellers didn’t hand over cash, state police said at the time.

Both bank stickups followed a breakdown in contract negotiations between the Barton Selectboard and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, in which robberies in town were a talking point.
State police ask anyone with information about robbery on Monday to call the Derby barracks at 802-334-8881 or submit a tip online.
