A Walden man has been charged with attempted murder โ€” allegedly shooting up a vehicle occupied by a man whose home was burglarized earlier in the day.

Police allege Chip Schneider, 30, shot up the vehicle in Walden last Thursday, though the man inside it was not injured.

Earlier the same day, Vermont State Police allege, Schneider and Michael Buck, 30, of St. Johnsbury, broke into the man’s home in Barton.

Schneider has been charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment and burglary.

Buck has been charged with burglary.

Buck and Schneider were both taken to the Northeast Regional Correctional Center in St. Johnsbury. Buck was held for lack of $10,000 bail, and Schneider was held without bail. Buck was scheduled for arraignment in court on Friday, while Schneier was scheduled for arraignment on Monday.

State police said the events began Thursday at about 5:20 p.m., when a burglary was reported at the property of Dylan Cady, 30,ย on High Street in Barton.

Investigators learned Buck and Schneider were allegedly responsible for the break-in, police said, and Buck was arrested that day in St. Johnsbury, police said.

Almost seven hours after the Barton burglary, police said they were notified of a shooting on Cobb Road in Walden.

Police allege Schneider fired a handgun multiple times into a vehicle occupied by Cady, but Cady was not injured. Schneider was taken into custody.

The two men knew each other, and the apparent shooting was the result of a dispute over the burglary, police said.
