Fair Haven public schools went all-remote this week after discovering Friday that two people with Covid-19 “were in attendance while contagious,” said Brooke Olsen-Farrell, superintendent of the Slate Valley school district.
“Contact tracing is underway and we are in the process of notifying anyone with possible exposure and sending them home until a final determination on quarantine can be made,” Olsen-Farrell said in a letter to the community on Friday.
Both cases came into the school from the community, she said.
“Due to the number of staff and students impacted, as well as the number of individuals waiting for testing results as of today, Fair Haven Grade School and Fair Haven Union High School will be fully remote the week of Jan. 25,” she wrote. In addition, all athletic practices have been canceled for the grade school and high school until at least Feb. 1.
In the meantime, all other schools in the district — in Benson, Castleton and Orwell — are operating as normal.
“If conditions allow, we will return to in-person learning on Monday, Feb. 1,” in Fair Haven, she wrote.
Meals will be available to students affected by the school closure, and follow-up information has been issued by the grade school and high school.
