Dear Reader,

Vermontโ€™s largest Covid-19 outbreak in an elder care facility is currently tearing through Elderwood in Burlington. There were 78 cases and three deaths as of Thursday afternoon. Staff are overwhelmed and many have tested positive themselves, leaving a shrinking number of workers to care for residents. Their words are haunting.

In-depth stories that reveal the human toll of the coronavirus pandemic on Vermonters are heartbreaking to read and painful to report on. We canโ€™t do this work without your support.

VTDiggerโ€™s Katie Jickling has been talking to those on the ground at the Ederwood facility — collecting stories from residents and staff and talking to experts. Each story we produce takes careful news gathering, source development, research and editing.

Since Covid-19 hit Vermont, VTDiggerโ€™s newsroom has published thousands of stories about the virus and its impacts, from breaking news to deep dive investigations. Weโ€™ve personally answered hundreds of reader questions and created new graphs, events and tools to get Vermonters the information they need as fast as possible.

Right now we are about halfway to our annual fundraising goal which will power our reporting through the upcoming year. If you believe the stories we tell are important, please be a part of ensuring that we can continue this work.

Your gift will be doubled and we will send 10 meals to the Vermont Foodbank on your behalf.

During our annual fund drive, we hope you’ll support VTDigger’s mission and Vermonters in need.

With gratitude,

Anne Galloway
