The parents of a 1-month-old boy are facing charges in his death in Swanton.

Stephanie Gero, 28, and Matthew Cushing, 36, were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a four-month probe by Vermont State Police into the homicide of their infant son, Leo Cushing in August.
Gero, who was held for lack of $25,000 bail, is set to be arraigned Thursday in criminal court in St. Albans on charges of aggravated domestic assault and cruelty to a child with death resulting.
Cushing has been issued a citation to appear in the St. Albans court on Dec. 22 for arraignment on a charge of cruelty to a charge, with death resulting.

State police said in a news release Wednesday that investigators were notified of Leo Cushing’s death at about 5 a.m. on Aug. 1 inside a home on Highgate Road in Swanton where he lived with his parents.
The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington conducted an autopsy and identified the cause of Leo Cushing’s death as subdural hemorrhage to the brain, according to state police. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation determined that Gero injured the infant while she was alone with him.
State police said Matthew Cushing knew that Gero was prohibited from being alone with the infant, but he allowed her to remain unsupervised with the infant while he took a shower.
No other information was immediately available.
Additional details of the investigation are expected to be made public following Gero’s arraignment Thursday, when the affidavit of probable cause will be released.
