Dear Reader,

The Covid-19 pandemic has made clear the essential nature of local news. And we want you to know that reader support is essential to making our reporting possible.

Vermontโ€™s first case of the new coronavirus was announced on March 7. Less than a week later, VTDiggerโ€™s newsroom became a remote operation dedicated to keeping Vermont informed and connected during this uncertain period.

Over the course of the past nine months, VTDigger has broken hundreds of stories about the state’s response to Covid-19 and the impact of this health crisis on our communities.

We have also published a dozen investigations, including Covid spread from a UVM basketball game, lack of access to PPE, test rationing, the state’s surge plans, lack of hospital capacity and poor nursing home conditions. We were the first news organization in Vermont to report daily data on Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

None of this would be possible without our members. A member is anyone who has given any amount in the past 365 days to support our nonprofit journalism. VTDigger relies on membership to power our operation and right now is the most crucial time of year for us to gain new members.

If you can afford it, please support our news on behalf of someone who canโ€™t and help keep VTDigger strong and accessible to all. Your gift will be matched by generous supporters of VTDigger and we will send 10 meals on your behalf to the Vermont Foodbank.

Thank you for reading and for caring about the people of our state.

With gratitude,

Anne Galloway
