The Covid-19 pandemic โ€” and a morning of inclement weather โ€” didn’t stop tens of thousands of Vermonters from heading to the polls to vote in person on Tuesday.

Like the August primary, the coronavirus brought new sights to polling places. Along with the ubiquitous masks and hand sanitizer were the poll workers processing stacks of advance ballots, aiming to have every vote counted by the time polls closed.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, 260,142 Vermonters voted early, about 81% of the total 2016 turnout. But a steady stream of voters still flowed through polling places across the state, leading officials to believe they’d be seeing record numbers by the end of the day.
