Meg Hansen, a health care advocate who lost the Republican lieutenant governor primary this month, is now running for a state Senate seat in Bennington County.
In announcing her candidacy Monday, Hansen, who lives in Manchester, touted her “powerful grassroots campaign” oriented toward “working families, young people and seniors on fixed incomes whose needs and interests have been unfairly overlooked for too long.”
In the election on Aug. 11, Hansen received about 29% of the vote; businessman Scott Milne won the nomination with just under 46%. But Hansen beat Milne in several Bennington County communities, including Bennington, Arlington, Manchester and Pownal.ย
“We won Southern Vermont towns hands down because our message reached and resonated with the voters,” Hansen said. “Representing Bennington County in the Senate is in keeping with my primary goal, which is to give voice to Vermonters in under-represented parts like Southern Vermont.โ
Michael Hall, a retired Manchester police chief, is also running as a Republican, challenging the county’s incumbent Democratic senators, Dick Sears and Brian Campion, in the general election Nov. 3.
