The state is expected to release new guidelines for visiting friends and family members in long-term care facilities this week.

When asked about when visits to facilities will be allowed, Gov. Phil Scott said at a press conference on Friday that his administration is “wrapping up” details on new guidance for long-term care facilities.

Scott expected that the new guidelines would be released on Wednesday.

Visits to elderly and psychiatric care facilities have been restricted since Scott declared a state of emergency on March 13, as older people are generally more susceptible to suffer severe symptoms associated with the virus.

Outbreaks at two Burlington nursing homes account for more than half of the 55 deaths associated with the virus in Vermont.
