After a sunny day of zero new Covid-19 cases, Vermont is back to reporting new patients again — but the numbers are still far better than a few weeks ago, according to the latest data from the Department of Health.
The state had four cases and two deaths, roughly in line with the average number of new cases for the past week. Vermont now has a total of 866 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 and 49 victims of the virus. The state has 10 hospitalized patients, part of a mostly steady decline in the number of people hospitalized for the virus.
The state did not report any specific demographic details about the new cases or deaths, but continues to report the age distribution and demographics of all patients: The largest age category for positive cases was 50- to 59-year-olds, while people over the age of 60 form a disproportionate number of deaths. Men were also more likely to die of the virus than women.
The state reported 223 new tests, a decline from an average of 300-400 the previous week. But Vermont announced Wednesday that it plans to expand its testing capacity and the criteria for getting tested.
