Green Mountain Transit is offering free bus service during the coronavirus pandemic and suspending some of its services, the agency announced Monday.
GMT is operating fare free from now until at least April 1, according to a press release.
โLimiting the interaction on-board our buses will help us prevent the spread of COVID-19 to other passengers and to our Transit Operators,โ the company said.
The agency has already canceled operation of its Capitol Shuttle for this week, and on Wednesday will suspend its Mad River Valley bus service and Neighborhood Special service in Chittenden County.
The Stowe Mountain Road shuttle will be reduced to hourly from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Sunday, and is set to end on March 31, 2020, for the season.
Interim GMT general manager Jon Moore said that GMTโs goal was to maintain service for passengers who need it most.
โThe goal is to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and GMT is putting strategies in place to sanitize buses and our facilities,โ Moore said. โAs a community, we all have a responsibility to take care of one another.โ
