An 85-year-old woman died Sunday after she was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Barton on Saturday, according to the Vermont State Police.
Marion Handy of St. Johnsbury died early Sunday morning at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where she was being treated, state police said.
The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Route 5 and Kinsey Road in Barton, troopers said.
Handy was riding in a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Isabelle Handy, 80, of St. Johnsbury, when the SUV left the road at a sharp curve and crashed over an embankment, troopers said.
Both women received significant injuries and were taken to North Country Hospital in Newport, troopers said. Marion Handy was later taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Both were wearing seatbelts, troopers said.
State police said speed didn’t appear to have been a factor and they were still investigating.
