VTDigger and 250 news organizations around the world are joining forces for Covering Climate Now, a project founded by the Columbia Journalism Review and The Nation magazine to focus the mediaโs lens on climate change.
Weโll be publishing stories through next week covering different aspects of how the Green Mountain State is being impacted by rising temperatures and volatile weather, leading up the Global Climate Strike, which starts on Sept. 20.
VTDiggerโs environmental reporter Elizabeth Gribkoff will explore the many changes Vermont is already experiencing due to climate change, and look at how these trends could transform the state, from whoโs living here to which pests inhabit our farms and forests.
Sheโs also been investigating the ways in which Vermontโs utilities arenโt always as green as they might seem. And our Deeper Dig podcast this week will feature an interview with Bill McKibben, an author and perhaps Vermontโs most prominent climate warrior.
Weโll cap off the week of stories with coverage of the Vermont Climate Strike on Friday. Activist and student groups around the state are planning walkouts and protests (a full calendar of events is available here).
Weโre able to do this in-depth, sustained coverage of issues impacting Vermont because of support from our readers and people who believe our work is important.
Itโs because of our engaged and generous readers that we have the only reporter in the state exclusively covering energy and the environment.
Elizabeth spends every day talking with the policymakers, advocates and experts working on issues like energy efficiency, environmental conservation, lake preservation and wildlife protection. And just as importantly, she talks to people on the ground who are feeling the effects of decisions being made in Washington, D.C. and Montpelier.
Help us continue to cover the issues you care about.
