BURLINGTON โ Vice President Mike Pence is still planning on coming to Vermont Friday, despite plans to fly to Poland Saturday.
Pence will now arrive at Burlington International Airport at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, Gene Richards, aviation director at Burlington International Airport, said. Pence had been set to arrive at 2 p.m.
It appeared that Pence would be skipping the planned trip to Vermont after President Donald Trump said Pence would be going to Poland this weekend in his place. Trump decided to stay in Washington to monitor Hurricane Dorian as it approaches Florida.
Trump had been scheduled to visit Poland and President Andrzej Duda to mark the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II.
โI have decided to send our vice president, Mike Pence, to Poland in my place,โ Trump said Thursday afternoon. โItโs something very important for me to be here, it looks like the storm could be a very, very big one, indeed.โ
Pence visited Vermont last year for Labor Day weekend. He spent time at
Lake Hortonia in Hubbardton during that visit, according to WCAX.
The FAA had planned to institute Temporary Flight Restrictions around the time of Penceโs arrival in Burlington. Gene Richards, aviation director at Burlington International Airport, sent a message to airport staff stating that Penceโs aircraft would be parking at a ramp belonging to the National Guard.
Richards had said Secret Service agents would be stationed throughout the airport and did not anticipate any serious disruption in airline operations.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner also visited the state in August 2017.
