Judge denies bid for new trial for Bourgoin; unsealed records reveal juror insights
Steven Bourgoin will not be getting a new trial. A Vermont judge rejected the defense’s motion for a retrial after Bourgoin was convicted of five counts of second-degree murder in a highway crash that killed five teenagers. The case now moves to a sentencing hearing later this month.
Al Gobeille named hospital VP two months after leaving Scott’s cabinet
Former Human Services secretary Al Gobeille is taking a new post as an executive at the state’s largest hospital, just two months after he left Gov. Phil Scott’s cabinet. The UVM Health Network is bringing on Gobeille as its vice president for operations, which consumer advocates say raises questions about the ethics of the move.
Lack of hemp processing capacity hurts sales for growers
Vermonters are growing more hemp every year, but many are having difficulty getting it processed into products like CBD oil. One consultant estimates that the amount of Vermont hemp grown last year was about four times as much as the processing capacity in the state. That’s driving more Vermont growers to send their crop to out of state processors.
