Vermonters urge regulators to deny health insurance rate hikes to BCBS and MVP

Vermonters are urging state regulators to prevent health insurance companies from hiking rates for Vermont Health Connect plans. Both Blue Cross and MVP have asked the Green Mountain Care board to approve double-digit rate increases to offset rising costs. But customers who testified this week said their insurance premiums were already unaffordable.

Environment board issues Act 250 permit for Coventry landfill expansion

A state board has issued an Act 250 permit allowing a controversial expansion of Vermont’s only open landfill. The approval will allow Casella Waste Systems to enlarge the site in Coventry by an additional 51 acres. Local opponents had raised concerns about odor, noise, and potential contamination.

Welch applauded for supporting Trump impeachment

Vermont Congressman Peter Welch got a standing ovation in Montpelier this week for coming out in support of impeaching President Donald Trump. Welch had previously said Congress should wait until investigations of the president were complete. Today, Welch questions former special counsel Robert Mueller in a House Intelligence Committee hearing.
