Rebecca Holcombe announces candidacy for governor

Rebecca Holcombe is the first candidate to formally announce a run for Vermont governor in 2020. Holcombe led the Agency of Education for four years before resigning in 2018 due to growing tensions with Gov. Phil Scott over education policy. Holcombe was a key player in the implementation of the controversial school district consolidation law Act 46.

Developer weighing ‘extensive’ redesign of CityPlace

Developers are now considering an “extensive” redesign of the downtown Burlington CityPlace project. On Monday, an architect working on the development told a group of city officials that the planned changes could delay the project further. There’s been no new construction at the site for almost a year.

Auditor questions use of lake cleanup funds

A new report by the State Auditor’s office finds that state spending on clean water projects is not giving taxpayers the most “bang for their buck.” The report finds that a majority of funding went to stormwater and wastewater projects, which are far smaller sources of pollution than agricultural runoff.
