[V]ermont State Police are investigating a “suspicious” death after finding the body of woman inside a vehicle Wednesday morning.

State Police said Rutland City Police had received a report Tuesday from a “concerned citizen” reporting that Alicia Harrington, 44, was missing as was her red 2005 Subaru Impreza.

That vehicle was found around 8 a.m. Wednesday on Florence Road in Proctor, police said, and detectives found the body of a deceased woman inside.

The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team responded to process the scene, state police said in a release issued Wednesday evening.

“The identity of the deceased woman is being withheld at this time,” the release stated. “The body will be transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington, where an autopsy will take place to determine the cause and manner of death, and to confirm the identity of the victim.”

The release was titled, “Suspicious death investigation.”

Meanwhile, investigators with both state police and Rutland City Police are following up on “multiple leads,” according to the release.

No other information was immediately available.
