[A] Green Mountain College student is facing a criminal charge for threatening to shoot faculty members and “the campus in general,” according to Vermont State Police.
Aaron Sanchez, 19, was arrested by police in a classroom at the college in Poultney on Tuesday, one day after he allegedly made a series of threats.
Police say Sanchez, a student and resident assistant at the college from Plainfield, New Jersey, threatened to shoot “at least” two faculty or staff members and the campus.
Police responded to the threats after they were reported Tuesday morning, and conducted interviews with multiple witnesses. Sanchez was arrested on campus without incident, according to a press release.
Sanchez is due in court to face one charge of criminal threatening later this month. Sanchez was issued a trespass notice ordering him to stay away from the Poultney campus.
Police say there is “no indication of immediate harm to faculty members, students or the general public.”
A college spokesperson did not immediately respond to messages left Tuesday afternoon seeking comment.
Green Mountain College announced in January that it will close at the end of the academic year.
