[N]ORWICH โ€” Police are investigating after anti-Semitic and racist graffiti showed up on Sunday on the former Nordic Skater building and sign off Route 5 in Norwich.

The graffiti, which also targeted the Norwich Police Department, included swastikas and curse words in black spray paint.

Norwich officer Anna Ingraham said on Monday that a suspect isnโ€™t in custody at this time.

โ€œIt is under investigation and we will work hard to try and find whoever is responsible,โ€ Ingraham said.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, police and highway officials spray-painted over the graffiti on the side of the building and hung a tarp over the sign.

The building, which sits at 713 Route 5, is for sale through Coldwell Banker.

This weekendโ€™s incident isnโ€™t the first time graffiti with similar messages showed up in town.

Ingraham said it isnโ€™t clear if there may be a connection between this act and one that happened in 2013.

In March of that year, someone spray-painted graffiti on two sections of the roadway near the Route 5 and Route 132 intersection, as well as on the I-beam of the Interstate 91 bridge over Route 132.

โ€œThe terms that were used were similar,โ€ she said.

She doesnโ€™t believe anyone was ever prosecuted.
