[P]OULTNEY — Friday afternoon Vermont State Police Dive Team recovered the body of Thomas Flood, 61, of Schenectady, New York.
Flood and his wife were staying at a camp on Lake St. Catherine when, on Thursday, they went out boating under choppy water conditions with large gusts of wind.
Flood stepped onto an inner tube tied to the boat and fell into the water. He was unable to swim back to the tethered inner tubes or the boat, which began to drift away. His wife was unsuccessful in finding him. Flood was not wearing a floatation device.
Six local and state agencies responded to the scene, including the Vermont State Police, the Poultney Fire Department, the Wells Fire Department, and officials from New York state, including the Corinth Fire Department Dive Team, the South Glens Falls Dive Team, and the Washington County Department of Public Safety.
Emergency responders searched for Flood until 7:30 p.m. Thursday and resumed the search at 8 a.m. Friday morning.
At around 3:20 p.m. Friday afternoon Vermont State Police Dive Team using a sonar located and recovered the body of Flood about 50 feet deep.
Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
