[V]ermont State Police and the Department of Motor Vehicles are investigating the cause of a fatal crash that occurred just after noon on Thursday in Stowe.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision at the intersection of Vermont Route 100 and Randolph Road, one of which has been identified as a tractor-trailer. No other details were provided.

The carโ€™s driver and a passenger were both killed. Police have not identified those involved in the collision.

Police closed a portion of Route 100, from Stagecoach Road in Stowe to Golf Course Road in Morrisville, and estimated the road would remain closed for at least three hours.

The Department of Motor Vehicles and the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team are both investigating the matter.

Police are encouraging motorist to find alternate routes through rush hour today.
