The state is looking into the death of a Vermont inmate early Sunday at a prison in Pennsylvania.
Roger Brown, 68, of Brookline, was pronounced dead about 5:45 a.m. of what appeared to be a medical issue, the Vermont Department of Corrections said Monday.
He was being held at the SCI Camp Hill facility, which houses Vermont inmates under a contract with the state.
In keeping with policy, the Vermont department’s health services director will conduct an administrative and clinical review of the death, the DOC said in a news release.
Brown’s next of kin and the crime victims were notified, the department said.
He was serving a six- to 15-year sentence for three counts of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child who was 9 to 11 years old. Brown was due to be released no later than April 6, 2019.
He was found guilty by a jury in Windham Superior Court in 2009, after a child reported the abuse in 2007.
Brown was previously housed at the North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin, Michigan, operated by the GEO Group, the previous holder of the Vermont contract. He moved to Pennsylvania along with other Vermont prisoners in June, when the current arrangement went into effect.
SCI Camp Hill is overseen by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
