[B]URLINGTON โ€” A Tuesday traffic stop during a drug investigation led to the arrest of a young man wanted in an alleged murder conspiracy in New York City, police said.

Scott Hunter, 19, was arrested after a foot chase following the traffic stop. Burlington detectives spoke with their counterparts in New York City and discovered there was an arrest warrant for the Brooklyn resident on charges of conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon, according to a news release.

Burlington police arrested Hunter on suspicion of selling heroin. He is being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington for lack of $50,000 bail and awaiting extradition to New York.

The driver in Tuesdayโ€™s traffic stop, Leon Delima, 29, of Burlington, was arrested on multiple counts of selling cocaine. Delima came to the attention of investigators because โ€œhe had been present as a witness at the scene of the last three drug-related shooting incidents in Burlington,โ€ according to the news release.

Police did not provide further information on those shootings.

Delima, who was released on conditions after briefly being held at the jail in South Burlington, has convictions in Vermont for possession of cocaine, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and violation of conditions of release.
