Gov. Phil Scott wiped out in his debut at Thunder Road Sunday, according to a report from WCAX.
Scott’s stock car was in the number two position several laps from the finish when he was bumped by another vehicle, scraped a sidewall and was forced off the roadway. While the hood of his car was crumpled, he emerged from the vehicle unharmed.
Scott is the only sitting governor in the United States who races stock cars.
Sunday’s 55th Memorial Day Classic in Barre was the first race of the season at Thunder Road. The Merchants 150 was canceled last month due to rain.
