Sovernet Communications will now be called FirstLight.

The change is the latest step in Sovernet’s sale to a regional fiber network owner that also owns FirstLight Fiber.

FirstLight has already brought two other companies into the brand. The consolidation gives FirstLight 9,600 route-miles of fiber-optic cable across several states, according to a news release.

Kurt Van Wagenen, the president and chief executive officer of FirstLight, said in a statement: “This development will allow us to present a unified front to Vermont customers and offer consistent and clear messaging, which benefits our customers.”

“While we are accelerating our growth and increasing our scale, both organically and through acquisitions, we remain a nimble organization dedicated to maintaining our local presence in the communities in which we serve,” Wagenen said.

FirstLight said the company “remains committed” to building infrastructure in Vermont.
