[A] longtime spokesperson for two Democratic governors has been named Montpelier assistant city manager.
Susan Allen, who has also worked as a journalist, will fill the position left open since March, City Manager William Fraser announced. Allen will start on May 22.
She is set to make $87,000 a year, according to a news release.
Most recently, she was Shumlinโs deputy chief of staff, where her major role was communications both internally with staff and externally with the press and Legislature, she said.
Allenโs previous public work mirrors the responsibilities of her new role, she said, including a strong communication component and extensive team-based work.
Allen was an editor and reporter at several news organizations, including the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, the Burlington Free Press and The Associated Press.
โI have always admired Bill Fraser and I am very excited to work with him and the City Council,โ she said.
The role has been unoccupied since March, when former Assistant City Manager Jessie Baker left to become Winooski city manager.
Allen is a graduate of Mary Washington College. She was among 78 others who applied for the job and was selected by members of a combination of community members and city staff, according to a May 10 news release.
