Rep. Jill Krowinski, D-Burlington, is running to be majority leader in the Vermont House.

She is seeking to succeed Rep. Sarah Copeland Hanzas, D-Bradford, who is competing against two other Democrats to be speaker of the House.

The majority leader works closely with the speaker to get legislation passed. The majority whip and assistant majority whip both help sway their partyโ€™s members to pass laws, and the clerk assists the caucus with communications.

Krowinski currently serves as the clerk of the Democratic caucus. She said in an interview she is campaigning for majority leader across the state but is not aware of anyone else seeking the post.

Krowinski said she wants to bring together an โ€œextremely smart, talented, capable caucusโ€ to get things done, even though many are disappointed with the results of the national election.

โ€œI see myself as leader pulling people together, listening to their concerns, rolling up my sleeves and getting things done,โ€ Krowinski said. โ€œI just think it would be a tremendous honor to do that work.โ€

Krowinski was elected to the House in 2012 and has sat on the Human Services Committee ever since. She previously worked as an aide for House Speaker Gaye Symington and on a statewide campaign to elect Democrats to the House.

Her day job is as the vice president of education and Vermont community affairs for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.
