Only two people showed up for a public hearing on Burlington ballot initiatives Wednesday night.

City Council President Jane Knodell addressed a virtually empty audience.

“Well, either the public is extremely well-informed about the ballot questions, or they may not have been aware of this opportunity to get more information” Knodell said in an interview after the meeting had adjourned.

“I think it might be hard for average citizen to just be able to look at the ballot, for some of the questions. For example, the question about the zoning change just asks ‘do you approve of the zoning change?’ and it doesn’t really go into any detail,” Knodell said. “It requires some advance research, I think.”
