[A] childrenโ€™s clothing company with locations across Vermont has been sold, and a location in Montpelier is closing.

Zutano Baby on Main Street in Montpelier is advertising a three-day-per week sale that ends Oct. 30. A sign in the window says, โ€œAfter 18 years itโ€™s time to move out of the house, take new steps, and find new horizons.โ€

Zutano Inc., a design, manufacturing and retail company specializing in clothing for babies and young children, is no longer registered with the Vermont Secretary of Stateโ€™s office. The company now appears to be Zutano Global Inc., started this summer, based in Massachusetts with four owners listed.

In a written statement, a spokesperson for Steve Schuster, the president of Zutano Global, characterized the ownership change as โ€œa strategic partnershipโ€ with Zutano Global to enhance its website, Zutano.com.

โ€œThe business has continued to evolve over the past 25 years and with a high percentage of our customers engaging with the brand online, we are naturally focusing on growing that sector of the business and investing in building the brand around the world,โ€ the company said.

The company’s headquarters and distribution have been moved to a facility in Massachusetts.

Michael and Uli Belenky, the founders of Zutano, will still be brand advocates and designers, the company said.

The Belenkys did not return calls for comment.
