The Vermont State Employees’ Association endorsed Democrat Sue Minter for governor this week after a recent membership meeting in Killington.

The VSEA endorsed Matt Dunne over Minter in the primary race but decided to back the former transportation secretary during the union’s 72nd annual meeting.

“Our members said they were backing her because of her past VSEA membership, her knowledge and understanding of how state government functions, and her stated commitment to assist VSEA in our campaign to ensure that all state employees are safe and secure in their jobs and workplace,” said VSEA President Dave Bellini in a statement. “This is an incredibly important election for Vermont’s working families. We need elected officials in Montpelier who are responsive to the needs of state employees, supportive of labor unions and committed to providing quality public services to Vermonters.”

Minter, who has been a VSEA member for 10 years, said in a statement that she was proud to have the endorsement. She has received a number of high-profile endorsements, including from former Gov. Howard Dean, former Lt. Gov. Doug Racine and the Vermont National Education Association.

She faces Republican Phil Scott and Liberty Union candidate Bill “Spaceman” Lee in the general election.
