A man caught smuggling nearly 200 pounds of anti-anxiety pills across the Canadian border has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison, according to the office of the U.S. attorney for Vermont.

Border Patrol agents intercepted 22-year-old Quebec resident Cedrick Bourgault-Morin as he crossed the border by foot in January, pulling a sled containing 281,307 alprazolam pills, commonly known by the brand name Xanax.

Bourgault-Morin was wearing white camouflage and had wrapped the sledโ€™s contents in white camouflage.

Authorities estimated the 300 bags of pills were worth about $1.6 million.

At his sentencing this week in federal court in Burlington, Bourgault-Morin was also ordered to serve a year of supervised release after his prison term.
