The Republican Governors Association has released its second ad in support of Lt. Gov. Phil Scott for governor, an upbeat spot that pitches Scott as the candidate who stands with struggling business owners.
“Small business is the heart of our community,” Lindsay Kurrle says in the ad. Kurrle runs a fuel transport company in Montpelier. “Increased government regulations have made it harder for small businesses like ours.”
As video of Scott talking to voters at parades flashes across the screen, Kurrle says Scott “knows what it takes to run a small business and create jobs.”
Scott is a co-owner of DuBois Construction, which does business with the state. He has said he’ll put his share in a “blind trust” if elected.
Scott has received thousands of dollars from state fuel dealers, including the maximum allowed donation of $4,000 from the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association and from Skip Vallee, a gasoline dealer who owns the Maplefields convenience store line.
The Republican Governors Association’s PAC supporting Scott, A Stronger Vermont, had $255,000 in the bank, according to an August disclosure report. Its first ad supporting Scott, called “Back on Track,” was released hours after he was declared the winner of the Aug. 9 Republican primary against Bruce Lisman.
He faces Democrat Sue Minter in the November general election.
