A Putney man was sentenced to prison Monday in federal court for robbing a South Burlington pharmacy.

Shon Paul Shoram, 38, was accused of robbing a Kinney Drugs location in May 2015. He walked into the store and pointed a BB gun, which resembled a firearm, at two clerks and forced them to walk to the pharmacy counter, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Vermont.

Shoram then had the pharmacist give him the opiate painkillers Percocet and hydrocodone as well as other drugs. He forced the employees into a bathroom, then changed his clothes and tried to flee. However, law enforcement officers apprehended him shortly after the robbery.

Chief Judge Christina Reiss sentenced Shoram at the U.S. District Court in Burlington to four years in prison for the armed robbery, to be followed by five years of supervision.
