Rep. Alison Clarkson, D-Woodstock, says she will run for a Senate seat in Windsor County to replace Senate President Pro Tempore John Campbell, who isn’t seeking re-election to the Legislature.
“I have loved serving Plymouth, Reading and Woodstock in the Vermont House of Representatives,” Clarkson said in an announcement Monday. “With my 12 years of experience on the House Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, I am ready to work for everyone in Windsor County on the issues that are facing us as a region and as a state.”
A native of Buffalo, New York, Clarkson moved to Vermont in 1992. She has served numerous roles in the state, including as a board member of the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Natural Resources Council.
Campbell, a Democrat who has represented Windsor County since 2010, will take over as executive director of the Vermont Department of State’s Attorneys and Sheriffs soon after this year’s legislative session concludes.
Campbell has said he wants one of his top aides, Conor Kennedy, to run for his seat. Kennedy said Wednesday he is leaning toward a run and would finalize his decision after the legislative session ends.
