The jobless rate in Vermont declined slightly in March, according to the Department of Labor.

The seasonally adjusted rate was 3.3 percent in March — down from 3.4 percent in February.

The figure marks the eighth consecutive month that the unemployment rate has declined in Vermont. The rate ranked as the seventh-lowest in the country, according to the department.

Vermont’s unemployment rate came in considerably lower than the national rate of 5 percent in March.

“The national and Vermont economies continue to add jobs, and this prolonged period of economic growth, combined with demographic factors, make this a good time for people to find employment and new career opportunities,” Labor Commissioner Annie Noonan said in a statement.
