Emily’s List, a resource-rich national political committee, endorsed Burlington Democratic Rep. Kesha Ram for lieutenant governor Thursday.
“Kesha has been a champion for early childhood education and access to women’s reproductive health care, and will continue her extensive track record of advocating for Vermont’s women and families as lieutenant governor,” said Muthoni Wambu Kraal, the organization’s senior director for state engagement and development.
The endorsement ensures a strong source of political and financial support for Ram, who had already raised $96,122 from 497 donors when campaign finance reports were filed this month. David Zuckerman, the other Democrat running for lieutenant governor, had raised $64,535 from more than 1,055 donors by the reporting date.
Emily’s List, which describes itself as the nation’s largest supporter of women in politics, endorsed Ram in her first legislative election in 2008. This cycle, the group has also endorsed Democrat Sue Minter for governor.
Ram said she was honored to have the backing Thursday, pledging she would work as lieutenant governor to advance issues in Vermont including early childhood education and housing affordability.
