A Berkshire man is facing charges related to producing an extract of marijuana and cruelty to a child.

Michael Brown, 31, was arrested Thursday after law enforcement found evidence that he was extracting tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, from marijuana to create cannabis oil.

Vermont State Police investigators found evidence that Brown was manufacturing the extract, sometimes known as butane honey oil, dabs or oil, in his residence and a nearby unattached carport using butane.

The news release noted that butane is highly flammable, and can be associated with explosions in “clandestine laboratories.”

Police also found more than four pounds of marijuana while searching Brown’s residence.

He also faces charges for cruelty to a child under the age of 10 because a child was present in the home.

Vermont State Police responded to the scene with workers for the Department for Children and Families.

Brown is due in court April 18 to answer to the charges.
