The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for most of Vermont until about 9 a.m. Heavy rain and snowmelt are causing flooding in low-lying areas, and will likely continue to do so until later this morning.

The Vermont Department of Emergency Management urges Vermonters to stay clear of any floodwaters, never drive across a flooded road and seek higher ground if water is approaching your home.

Route 2 in the area of Old Settlement Farm in Middlesex, Route 15 in Hardwick toward Morrisville and Vermont Route 105 from Enosburg to Berkshire have been closed because of flooding.

The city of Montpelier sent out a warning that structures on State and Main streets could experience basement flooding as a result ice dams and floodwater rushing into the Winooski River.

Emergency management urges motorists to respect all detours.

The Vermont Division of Emergency Management & Homeland Security has partially activated (DEMHS staff and select state agencies) the state Emergency Operations Center to monitor conditions and work with other state agencies to provide assistance to communities that have resource needs. Municipalities that need additional assistance should contact DEMHS through established protocols.
