Vermont State Police are investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at Marble Valley Correctional Facility in Rutland.

Victor R. Bora, 52, was found in his cell Sunday morning around 8 A.M, and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead there.

An initial investigation suggested he hanged himself.

Defender General Matt Valerio said Monday that his office will investigate Boraโ€™s death, as occurs any time an inmate dies in Vermontโ€™s prisons.

Bora was arrested on Dec. 11, and was facing charges for domestic assault, sexual assault, resisting arrest, assault on an officer and other charges.

Bora is the second inmate to die by suicide in a Vermont prison this year.

In April, Patrick Fennessey, who was incarcerated at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, died after hanging himself in his cell.

According to DOC records, two inmates died by suicide in fiscal year 2014. That followed six years when there were no suicides.

โ€œIt does raise some cause for concern, although sometimes when you peel back the layers of the onion on these things they donโ€™t have anything to do with each other,โ€ Valerio said.
