Police are looking into a Burlington house party where unknown drugs may have been used to help carry out sexual assault, police say.

Burlington Police first learned of the party the afternoon of Saturday, December 5. UVM Police then sent a campus-wide alert Dec. 8, stating that “A student or students may have been drugged with an unknown substance at an off-campus party in the Burlington Hill Section.”

The investigation is being handled by the Burlington Police Department and the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations, UVM and Burlington Police officials say.

Rapes reported at UVM have sharply increased in recent years, according to the federally mandated Clery Act report. Last year, there were 27 reported rapes, up from 15 in 2013.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident to contact the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations at 802-652-6800.
