Officers with the State Police Drug Task Force made a controlled drug purchase earlier this month from the two men, and were then able to get a search warrant for their hotel room and rental car.
Traffic police saw the rental car driving on Route 7 in Colchester, and pulled the car over at a business in Winooski. One man fled and was caught following a foot chase. The other was arrested without incident.

In a search of the rental car and hotel room, police discovered 130 bags of heroin, 16 grams of crack cocaine and $8,000.
Michael Burton, 40, and Timothy Barfield, 39, are charged with heroin trafficking and possession of cocaine, both felonies. Burton faces an additional felony for the heroin sale.
The investigation was a collaboration between the Drug Task Force, Colchester Police, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI.
