Democrats Matt Dunne and Sue Minter will officially kick off their gubernatorial campaigns next week.
Dunne’s official campaign kickoff will take place at noon Monday at City Hall Park in Barre.
“What is clear is that Vermonters are struggling — poverty is increasing, commute times are growing, the cost of health care is continuing to hit budgets at home and at schools, and student debt is preventing young people from pursuing entrepreneurial dreams,” Dunne’s campaign chairman Nick Charyk said in a statement announcing the event.
Minter’s kickoff event is scheduled for around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Waterbury train station. The event will feature remarks from former Gov. Madeleine Kunin and former Lt. Gov. Doug Racine, both of whom have endorsed Minter’s candidacy.
“It’s a community I represented and love,” Minter said about her decision to hold her event in Waterbury. “The train station is not only representative of Irene and so many things that happened but the train station has also been a wonderful asset as part of our downtown revitalization.”
Minter, who recently resigned as the state secretary of transportation, represented Waterbury for four terms in the Vermont House.
House Speaker Shap Smith announced his bid for governor in August, holding a kickoff event in his hometown of Morrisville.
Former Wall Street executive Bruce Lisman and Lt. Gov. Phil Scott have announced gubernatorial runs on the Republican ticket, but neither has held an official kickoff event.
