[P]residential candidate Rand Paul will be coming to Vermont at the end of the month for a fundraiser to benefit the Vermont GOP.
The Republican physician, who has represented Kentucky since 2011 in Senate, will speak to attendees atย the Vermont Republicans’ $65 a head summer barbecue, held on Monday, Aug. 31, at Whitcomb Barn in Essex Town.
A 6 p.m. private reception kicks off the event for special contributorsย who give $500, $1,000 and $2,000 to the Vermont GOP. The donors will have an opportunity to meet the senator and have a photo taken with himย and their invited guests. The main event beginsย at 7:30 p.m., according to a news release.
Jeff Bartley, executive director of the Vermont Republican Party, said the event is something of a first. โWe had Chris Christie in December 2013, and weโve had various other speakers, but itโs the first presidential candidate weโve had in a while.”
Paul, who is the son of physician and former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) who ran for president three times, has picked up some of his father’s famously libertarian stances. He is aย “constitutionalย conservative” and a part of theย Tea Party movement.
Bartley says Paulโs visit will be timed with a stop in New Hampshire.
Other GOP candidates are welcome to come to Vermont, he said.
โWe have a diverse field, I was at the GOP debates (last week) and there are very, very different opinions,โ he said, across the party at the moment.
