Customers of the Burlington Electric Department are being warned of a possible telephone payment scam, BED officials said Monday.
Some BED customers, particularly hair salons, have received calls threatening to cut off service if bills are not paid within an hour, a news release said.
The callers ask the customers for credit card or other payment information, the statement said.
BED said customers should not disclose their personal information and should hang up and call BED’s customer service line at 865-7300 to report the incident.
