RUPERT — Vermont State Police say a bicyclist was killed Friday when he lost control of his bicycle coming down a steep hill.

According to State Police Lt. Charles Cacciatore, at 2:28 p.m. Michael Munson, 52, of Peru, stopped at the top of a long, steep hill on Route 315 to rest. He was going down the hill in the area of Derby Hill Road when he came to a curve. He lost control and was thrown from the bicycle.

The bicycleโ€™s front tire was blown out, but whether this happened before or after the crash is unknown.

Munson was wearing a helmet, which was damaged in the crash and came off. He suffered injuries to his head, face and the side of his body. Police say he died at the scene. An autopsy will be done in Burlington at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
