The Vermont State Police said Friday that a former state employee acquired 80 Social Security numbers and seven employer wage reports in an internal privacy breach at the Labor Department.

Thirty-nine of the Social Security numbers were associated with names, and 41 were not, according to the Department of Public Safety. The seven quarterly employer wage reports were โ€œimproperly accessed, but no Federal Employer Identification Numbers appear to have been involved,โ€ the department said in a news release.

A statement from Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn refers the suspect as a former employee, who used her internal access to the stateโ€™s Unemployment Insurance system to take confidential information on Feb. 24.

State police obtained a search warrant for the womanโ€™s home to review the alleged privacy breach. Police seized documents and her personal computer devices, the release said.

Scott Waterman, public information officer for the Vermont State Police, said no charges have been filed against the woman. Waterman declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

The Labor Department will send a letter to the affected people by March 28, but encourages people to monitor their credit, the Labor Departmentโ€™s website and contact the department with questions.
