A Rutland County man was ordered to pay a $70,000 penalty and to permanently surrender his pesticide license under a settlement with the Attorney General’s Office.
Cary Buck of North Clarendon, owner of AAA Accredited Pest Control, was investigated for the improper use of pesticides after the company improperly treated a Rutland home infested with bed bugs, the AG’s office said.
The allegations claim that the company “used pesticides containing chlorpyrifos, which is not approved as an indoor surface spray, in treating homes for bed bug infestations, and used approved pesticides at
excessive rates,” according to a news release.
Under the agreement, Buck will properly dispose of any pesticides in his possession and will not seek employment in the pesticide application field.
The Agency of Agriculture worked with the Attorney General’s Office on the case, the release said.
โWe take pesticide regulation very seriously in Vermont, and we moved aggressively to investigate and enforce these violations in order to protect human health and the environment,โ Agriculture Secretary Chuck Ross said in a statement.
