Gov. Peter Shumlin has proclaimed Thursday, Feb. 12 — the 206th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln — as Black Lives Matter Day in Vermont.
An observance of the event will be held from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at City Hall in Burlington, where local supporters of the National Black Lives Matter Movement will read the governor’s proclamation.
Black Lives Matter VT will present speakers and deliver a list of statewide demands “in an effort to bring awareness of continued racial inequities and discrimination in Vermont, and to propose concrete steps to end these problems,” the group said in a news release.
Scheduled speakers include Ebony Nyoni, Elizabeth Dunn, Quali Qurux and others.
